The National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) has exercised Option Year 2 of a five-year contract for INFORMATED, NMAI's primary Applications contractor, to provide needed IT services. Federal government contracts are often created for multiple years, such as this one for five years, but they are awarded in pieces so the awarding agency can evaluate the vendor’s services, and cancel the contract early without penalty, if necessary. NMAI was pleased with the performance of INFORMATED during the first two years of the contract and it decided to exercise Option Year 2 — that is, to extend INFORMATED’s contract for the second option year.

Option Year 2 will begin May 7, 2009.

Due to technology limitation, poor implementation, and other reasons, the website has become a burden in terms of operational support and cost. Besides, the website is impossibly complex and cubersome to use. INFORMATED will re-implement the entire website by retaining the existing front-end design and content and rebuilding it with Microsoft ASP.NET technology. The goal of this project will be a new website for SERC that is built with best technologies and practices and that is slimmer, cleaner, better-implemented, easier-to-manage, and low-cost.
